Many people on both sides (for and against) of the genAI debate are arguing irrationally. On the one hand, artists of various stripes argue that what is produced utilizing genAI is not as great as what is produced by artists themselves. Most often, this observation is correct, but it is still irrelevant in a system that is designed to rob the many and pass profits onto the few. Inferior creations won’t stop theft and mass firings. On the pro genAI side, well, what can I say about a group that tends to contradict themselves almost constantly? I can only say that it takes more than a pretty picture to be true art. And it’s a deliberate failure of education, orchestrated by those in power to ensure that rhe masses rarely understand the power of art, literature, a creative mind, and a unified populace. Artists, writers, and performers of all stripes, our creative minds and collective wills that will see us through this awful phase. Something beautiful that we cannot yet see is on the side of this growing catastrophe—something we cannot know because we have not yet created it.
GenAI needs us, and we do not need it. It will forever be one step behind us.
